Elakala Falls,
Blackwater Falls State Park. This waterfall is on Shay Run as it cascades
into the Blackwater Canyon. The falls is a very short walk from the lodge
down a trail which crosses the bridge visible in the photo. Another more
impressive waterfall is further downstream (see photo at right), but there is no trail and it
requires a very steep and difficult hike.

Shay Run
Waterfall. This waterfall is on Shay Run in Blackwater Falls State Park.
For directions on how to access this waterfall see the description of Elakala
Falls at left. Although further downstream, some consider this a part of
Elakala Falls.
To achieve this "silky" effect when
photographing waterfalls, use a tripod and a slow shutter speed.

It underwent a complete restoration in 2004. The bridge spans the

Lower
Falls of Hills Creek. The Falls of Hills Creek, located in Pocahontas
County, WV, consists of a series of three falls, the Upper, Middle, and Lower.
The Upper Falls does not present a very good photographic opportunity.
There is a good viewing platform at the Middle Falls. However, the Lower
Falls, the highest waterfall in WV, is the gem of this trio. A trip the
Lower Falls is a strenuous trek down a series of well-maintained boardwalks and
stairs. This is not the "traditional" (from the
platform) angle from which to photograph the lower falls.

Golden
Morning Light. The golden light and rising fog of a summer morning, combined
with a simple but carefully selected composition to include the reflection of
the barn in the stream, make this a pleasing image. This scene is along Pursley Creek in Tyler County, WV.
